First of all, the most interesting thing about this film is the way it makes one think about the inconsistencies on both sides of the politcal debate. As the woman in the purple shirt pointed out, “Abortion is not for women; it’s for men.” If she’s right, then it doesn’t make sense for a feminist (or any woman, for that matter) to support abortion since it violates a woman’s body and is against her nature. And on the other hand, how can a religious conservative support free enterprise in a capitalistic society (i.e., big ugly shopping malls) and at the same time claim that we ought to curb our desires and live moderately?
Despite all their inconsistencies, liberals and conservatives both seem to believe that moderation is the key. This, perhaps, is the beginning of a kind of reconciliation or mutual understanding.
Now the question, I think, is this: Who is responsible for enacting moderation? Is it society or the individual? And why?
